Long videos and video quality
Post Once reposts videos up to 2 hours long and up to 4K. A video over 3 minutes, or one that is wider than tall, counts as long and only goes to YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn, plus your backups. Short vertical or square videos go everywhere.
Short or long?
| Your video | Counts as | Goes to |
|---|---|---|
| Up to 3 minutes, vertical or square | Short | Every destination |
| Over 3 minutes, or landscape | Long | YouTube, Facebook, LinkedIn and backups |
Destinations that only take short videos skip a long one with a reason such as “Instagram only takes short vertical videos”. That is a skip, not a failure. If no destination takes it, the post shows “Not posted” with “No destination takes long videos”.
Limits
- Length: up to 2 hours.
- Resolution: up to 4K (3840 or 4096 by 2160, either way round).
- Per platform: each destination has its own limits. LinkedIn takes videos up to 30 minutes, for example, and Facebook Reels up to 90 seconds, with longer videos posted as regular Page videos. A video outside a destination’s length range is skipped there with the reason.
Uploading a long video takes longer. The post shows “Posting, usually a few minutes” until it is done.
Video quality
Post Once fetches the best version of each video it can:
- Instagram Reels are fetched at 1080p where available. Instagram’s API only provides a 720p file, so Post Once uses that when the 1080p version cannot be fetched.
- Re-encoding happens only when a destination needs it, such as a file over its size limit or in a format it does not accept. YouTube usually gets the original file as it is.
- Backups keep the original file. A video is converted to H.264 only when the platform served another format, so the backup opens anywhere.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my 4-minute video skip Instagram and X?
Instagram, Threads and X only get short vertical or square videos, up to 3 minutes, through Post Once. Anything longer goes to YouTube, Facebook and LinkedIn.
Does Post Once lower the quality of my videos?
It sends the best file it can get. Some platforms cap file size or resolution, and Post Once re-encodes a video only when a destination needs it, for example to fit Instagram's 300 MB limit.
What about a video over 2 hours?
Nothing is posted, and the post shows "Post Once reposts videos up to 2 hours long; this one runs ...". Trim it, or upload it to YouTube yourself.
