Keep posting Reels on Instagram. Post Once uploads each new one to YouTube as a Short, with your caption and hashtags.

## Turn every Instagram Reel into a YouTube Short

Post Once fills in each YouTube upload from the Instagram caption. For example, this caption:

```
Sunday cold brew in 3 steps ☕
Coarse grind, cold water, 16 hours in the fridge. That is all it takes.
Recipe card is pinned on my profile.
#coldbrew #coffee #homebarista #sundayreset
```

- Title: Sunday cold brew in 3 steps ☕
- Description: the full caption
- Tags: coldbrew, coffee, homebarista, sundayreset
- Visibility: Public
- Made for kids: No

## What each post becomes

| You post on Instagram | YouTube gets |
| --- | --- |
| Reel up to 3 minutes, vertical or square | Uploaded, and YouTube shows it as a Short |
| Reel over 3 minutes, or a landscape video | Uploaded as a regular video, up to 2 hours and 4K |
| Trial reel | Your choice: upload it right away, or wait until you share it with your followers |
| Photo | Skipped on YouTube, which takes no photos. Reposted to Facebook, Threads, X and LinkedIn |
| Carousel | Skipped on YouTube, which takes no photos. Reposted to Facebook, Threads, X and LinkedIn |
| Story | Skipped on YouTube, which has no Stories. Reposted to your Facebook Page’s Stories |

## Three ways to get Reels on YouTube

|  | By hand | A scheduling app | Post Once |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Where you post | Instagram, then YouTube | In its dashboard | On Instagram, as usual |
| Work for each Reel | Upload twice, retype the caption | Upload it there, fill in each account | None, once it is set up |
| Trending audio and effects | Yes | No, it posts through the API | Yes, you post in Instagram |
| YouTube title and tags | You type them | You type them | Filled in from your caption |

## Set it up in minutes

1. Connect Instagram. Use the account you post Reels on. It needs to be a Business or Creator account.
2. Connect YouTube. Sign in with the Google account that owns your channel.
3. Keep posting Reels. Post on Instagram as usual. Each new Reel goes up on YouTube by itself.

## Common questions

### How do I post my Instagram Reels to YouTube automatically?

Connect your Instagram account as the source and your YouTube channel as a destination in Post Once. From then on Post Once checks Instagram about every minute and uploads each new Reel to YouTube. You keep posting on Instagram as usual. Here is [how Post Once works](https://postonce.com/help/how-post-once-works), step by step.

### Will my Reels show up as YouTube Shorts?

YouTube decides that from the video itself. Vertical or square videos up to 3 minutes are treated as Shorts. Longer or landscape videos become regular videos, up to 2 hours and 4K. See [long videos](https://postonce.com/help/long-videos).

### What title, description and tags does the YouTube video get?

The first line of your caption becomes the title, up to 100 characters. The full caption becomes the description, and every hashtag becomes a tag. Write your first line like a title and the upload reads well on YouTube too. See [repost to YouTube](https://postonce.com/help/repost-to-youtube).

### Is it free?

The Free plan covers 10 reposts with no card needed. After that, Solo is $9 a month for one source account with unlimited reposts. See [pricing](https://postonce.com/pricing).

### Do I need an Instagram Business account?

A Business or Creator account, either works. Personal accounts can’t be read by apps like Post Once, and switching is free in the Instagram app. No Facebook Page is needed. See [repost from Instagram](https://postonce.com/help/repost-from-instagram).

### Will there be an Instagram watermark on YouTube?

No. Post Once uploads the video file itself, not a screen recording, and adds no watermark of its own. Text and stickers you added in Instagram’s editor are part of the video, so they show on YouTube too.

### What happens to my photos and carousels?

They skip YouTube, which only takes videos, and the post shows "YouTube does not accept photos". They still go to accounts that take photos, like Facebook, Threads, X or LinkedIn, if you connect them.

### What are the limits of reposting from Instagram to YouTube?

Your Instagram account must be a Business or Creator account, which is free to switch to. To stay inside YouTube’s upload limits, Post Once sends up to 6 videos a day to each channel; extra Reels wait and go out on their own once the limit resets. Only Reels you post after connecting are uploaded, nothing from your history. Reels are fetched at 1080p where Instagram offers it, otherwise 720p. Each upload is public and marked as not made for kids.

### Why did a Reel not go to YouTube?

The reason shows on the post in your dashboard. One Instagram case is licensed music: Instagram sometimes holds back the file for those Reels. Other reasons and fixes are in [a post did not repost](https://postonce.com/help/post-not-reposted).

### Can my Reels go to other platforms too?

Yes. The same Reel can go to Facebook Pages, Threads, X and LinkedIn as well as YouTube, from one setup. See how to [post to all your social media at once](https://postonce.com/crosspost).

### How is this different from a scheduling app like Buffer or Later?

A scheduling app like Buffer, Later or Hootsuite publishes your post to every account through its API, your main account included. With Post Once you post on your main account yourself, in its own app, and only the reposts go out through Post Once. Your main post keeps what only the native app gives it: trending audio, in-app effects and templates.

### Can it go the other way, from YouTube to Instagram?

Yes. Connect your YouTube channel as the source, and each new public video and Short goes to Instagram and your other accounts. Instagram takes vertical or square videos up to 3 minutes. See [repost from YouTube](https://postonce.com/help/repost-from-youtube).
